Mind, Body & Float

There is no need to go to India or anywhere else to find peace. You will find that deep place of silence right in your room, your garden or even your bathtub – Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

By M♥

As I am kid-sitting my adorable nephews this summer, my body often demanded to be immersed in a more relaxing environnement just to regain more energy. While delving in a bubble bath moment at home is great, I admit to have wanted more.

I had read once an article about floating baths and how one session could compensate close to a full night of sleep. That was it… I needed to float. And that’s what I did.

My bath ritual

There I was, opening the doors of OVARIUM, the first and largest floating bath service center in the city, to experience this new way of relaxing, as well as their light pulsation or photic technique called Pulsar.

Each customer gets their individual room complete with shower, where the the egg-shaped huge bath sits. It is filled with 2000 cups of water for 2000 cups of Epsom salt also called magnesium salt. Magnesium is part of our daily nutrient needs which we can find in most vegetables. However, with the floating bath, “it becomes a ‘giant vitamin’ because our skin will absorb it, thus becoming very therapeutic”, says Marianne, the director of customer service. It is also a natural muscle reliever, it helps a better blood and lymphatic circulation and will act positiviely on our nervous system – an excellent anti-stress. The water’s buoyancy does take you by surprise for it literally lifts you up – I love it! Afterwards, just left yourself go and enjoy the moment. It is like going back in your mother’s womb (N.B.: You also go in the same way you came on this earth… Naked!). Speaking of which, pregnant women are strongly invited to enjoy this experience for the benefits it will have on them and the babies they’re carrying is tremendous.

What I appreciate with Ovarium is how I could control my floating environment – from having music playing or not to being in total darkness or not. The choice was totally mine and makes the experience much more enjoyable for it is truly self-catered. My preference? Total darkness + total silence.

And add to it all the sensation of floating in space because of the water being at body temperature and being unable to decipher which part of your body is in or out the water. I would’ve loved seeing white glowing dots on the ceiling of the bath to mimic space though. Can you imagine – a spatial experience in the nude, whoo!

Next step, the Pulsar. You are asked to wear headphones and special glasses which emits the stroboscopic flashes of blue light that your brain will react to. Unfortunately for me, while I was already in a zen-mode from floating, I fell asleep within minutes of the treatment. It is therefore recommended to do the Pulsar first and follow with the floating bath session or a massage. Nevertheless, the Pulsar automatically puts your mind at ease and helps stimulate your overall brain activity.

As the center is always on the lookout of new techniques for relaxing, it is close to introduce the city to a new one they will call the Meditarium. It involves specialized music, visual projections, glass fiber bubbles, vibration and an anti-gravity chair. Kind of raises a brow right? Rest assured, once its out, you’ll be the first ones to know.

I encourage you to at least try it once or more, not to savor your curiosity, but for your overall well-being. Stress is the new added dish in the lives of a lot of us. You will feel relaxed, refreshed and energized.

Floating is a unique sensation waiting to be discovered or rediscovered by none other than YOU. And to help you along the way… why not participate to win a pass for you and a friend for a Pulsar + Floating session at Ovarium? All you have to do is answer this question in a comment below:

What did I wish seeing inside the bath?

The contest is open to all the Quebec province residents 16 and over and ends on September 10th. The winner will be annouced on September 13th.

Good luck and Live. Laugh. Love. Float!
