Although I’m a sucker for productions for dinner (thought-out recipes, full table setting and plate decor), with kids at home (my two beautiful nephews), often these productions need to be traded with the basics: one plate-for-all, utensils, drinking cup, paper towel, salt-and-pepper shakers and most importantly… quick quality cooked meal. But how could I cram production + quick quality cooked meal for very-difficult-to-please-kid-tasting-buds inside 30 minutes?
On my weekly run to the grocery store I stumbled, in the salad dressing aisle, a two-bottle package from Kraft called Sizzling Salads, and out of curiosity, looked it up. Cooking sauce + salad dressing? Hmmm… interesting! Looked at the cooking steps… easy-as-1-2-3 and with chicken? Cook slices of chicken, pour 2-3 tablespoons of the sauce and walaaa!! I thought, that could be the quickest meal I’ll ever do…. aka hmmm…. more time to write – but that’s beside the point.
I then decided, why not share this with you? With the white carpet filling our streets and sidewalks, and the melodious wind chiming outside our window, not forgetting the dropping Celsius… homemade meals are often the way to go. So get re-acquainted with your burners, oven and recipe books. I sure will… but won’t say no to a nice meal at a restaurant. Montreal’s has got some amazing ones, and being served for a change is often a sweet delight.
I’m happy to introduce my first “In my plate” post, where I will talk about recipes I did/do, my favorites especially, my trials (and errors), experiences and even cool products I’m discovering. Oh and did I tell you that I slowly but surely am transitioning to eating more organically? So join me on this paperplane ride… food included!
The meal
Chicken slices and ceasar salad: I followed the cooking steps of Kraft’s Cracker Black Pepper cooking sauce from their Sizzling Salad kit and tweaked it by adding some veggies (mix of brocolis, mushroom, cauliflower, etc). It took less than 10 minutes to make!
Sizzling on the stove… looking hot & nice in its bowl (see the steam?)
They salad dressing is included in the kit. For this one, it was a Ceasar Classic… which together was very tasty, and the kids loved it! What a breather…
If ever you feel like trying them, they also have different flavors, and if I remember well there’s a Greek and Asian kit. It’s next on my list.
Before I go…
Send me your name, email address and city to contest@paperplanes.ca for a chance to win two (2) Sizzling Salads’ kits from Kraft Canada, with three coupons to get your kits free on your next purchase. Contest ends on Sunday 12th, 2010, 11:59 PM, eastern time. Open to Canadian residents only.
