Organik D’va takes us to Old Montreal to get a good taste of UK’s best and most guiltiest culinary pleasure at famous eatery Brit & Chips.
by Organik D’va
I have recently added a wonderful human being to my list of acquaintances and she introduced me to a new spot in the old port! First I must share that this woman is from Paris and have been in the city for about 4 months and she knows a lot more places downtown than I do ! I was somewhat embarrassed but then I realized that she lives downtown and she doesn’t cook much….go figure!
I have heard about the Fish and Chips concept a few times now but I was never really attracted to it because let’s face it, it is what it is…..fish and chips! If you don’t like fish to start off with…its gonna be hard for you to indulge in this traditional dish! Still read the rest of the article because you might want to try it anyway because they have other stuff on the menu!
Believe it or not, this dish has been part of a traditon amongst the ‘UK’ culture since the 1800′s! Now for the experience…

The place is small and cozy!

This is what my plate looked like when I ordered and it was plenty! As you can see in the pic, the fish is deep fried! If you are counting your calories, there is no point in doing that for the night, enjoy the food and make it up to your body the next day. We all need to live a little!
I picked the Haddock fish with a maple syrup batter (next time I will avoid the maple syrup batter…I ended up taking it off and eating the naked fish) with the famous chips (which are somewhat plain fries that they call chips).
So there is no going around it, everything is deep fried. I just noticed on the menu that they have meat pies (probably the desire to add a touch of Quebec to the menu) so I am going back for the ‘lamb and mint’ one!!!!
I must also add that the prices a very cheap which is perfect! The most expensive item on the menu is their full ‘fish and chips’ plate that is 11$ , so if you are on a budget do not worry!
I was gettnig really full but I wanted to try a dessert, sometimes I question the idea that I dont have a sweet tooth….
Up to this point, everything was deep fried so I decided to end ‘full blown calorie night’ with a ‘deep fried whatever’ dessert! It is a deep fried chocolate bar and every now and then the kind changes, the day I went, Oh Henry was on the menu! Here is a pic of the famous dessert….Let me warn you, the dessert does not look good…..you have been warned…..

I even had a reaction when my dessert came to the table…wasn’t too sure if was gonna eat it….but after the first taste, it really doesn’t matter what it looks like cuz it’s goooood! A very good way to end my ‘high calorie’ dinner….
The verdict?! Check it out, it is worth it! They even do TAKE OUT!
