Gerardine heads to new Montreal eatery, ICEHOUSE for a mexican style culinary experience!

Before I start my article I have to share something random. I was just eating a mango and I realized that there is no fancy way to eat this fruit. Just peel off, hold the fresh fruit in your hands and digg in with your teeth… get your hands and mouth dirty… the mixture of sweet and sour is beautiful. Next time you have a mango…..go all in! It’s a sensual experience….

So back to my article! It still concerns food but its about a new place that I discovered last week . I heard a lot of good things about this new place called ICEHOUSE. You should know that some food critics (like me) don’t believe the hype, I always tell myself that I want to be the judge of things. Ok, I am a bit of a control freak BUT to my defense, sometimes I run and promote a place and it ends up being very average when I check it out. There is another reason why I am being picky these days, I cook at home and I am surrounded by food lovers who can throw down in the kitchen so if I leave my place, it must be for a decent moment (food wise that is).

Ok so my friend and I checked out the famous ICEHOUSE and I was blown away!

It is a very small place in the famous Plateau (Roy street corner St-Dominique), so get ready to eat with people really close to you! I had read in a review that for 3 people, expect a bill of about 200$… I was a little surprised! I told myself that we are only two and we are going for tacos and burritos, it can’t be that bad! Well it wasnt bad but this place is addictive! Everything on the menu sounds good so we started ordering a few things out of curiosity and we ended up leaving with a $74 bill. My friend was a little surprised but when we looked at the bill, it sounded about right (cuz he ordered a 20$ burrito…haha).

I ordered tacos, we had fries with chili, ‘popcorn’ shrimps, spiked iced tea and lemonade (I prefer the lemonade!) . Usually I get into all the details about how I had a foodgasm and what everything tasted like but this time, my only words are… “Try this restaurant very soon!” , “the sooner the better!” , “experience the terrace before winter!”, “go there and reward yourself for being so fabulous!”

CONFESSION: I wanted to go the very next day but I was shy. So I’m giving myself a week… maybe they won’t remember me? Haha! But with all the noise I was making while I was eating – I think they will! Remember ‘When Harry met Sally’? ok..it wasnt that loud! I went with a hot friend so maybe that made the culinary experience even better. So find someone that you can share this sensual experience with – you might need some ice afterwards for dessert…
