hi, i’m darlene

I am a certified Project Management Professional and Registered Professional Planner with a master’s degree in Sustainable Urban Development from the University of Oxford. My professional experience spans across various sectors, including both public and private, where I have managed a wide range of projects. From overseeing municipal-wide policy initiatives to obtaining development approvals for specific sites, I have navigated complex challenges to deliver results. Notably, I held the position of Vice President of Development for the fastest growing hospitality brand in western Canada. In this role, I spearheaded the expansion efforts for boutique hotels, residential properties, and commercial and industrial real estate projects, collectively valued at over $450 million. Alongside my professional pursuits I have also been actively investing in commercial real estate in mountain resort communities, with vacation rental properties managed by S&T Properties. In contribution to my community I serve/have served as a board member for the Town of Canmore’s Subdivision and Development Appeal Board and Canmore Planning Commission; the Bow Valley Builders and Developers Association; Grande Rockies Resort; and Canmore Mountain Biking Alliance.

About Me

Paper Planes symbolizes the process of envisioning possibilities, strategizing solutions and navigating complex challenges that yield results. Similar to crafting a paper plane, land development starts with imagination; develops solutions with design, innovation, iteration and precision; and aims high, making a vision into reality. Whether it's providing strategic direction for a city, building a multi-storey complex or simply, crafting a paper plane, I believe that working together with aligned intent to do good work realizes the most successful outcomes.
